Edward "Murph" Cywinski, 80, of Nanticoke, passed away suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2013, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born on Feb. 9, 1933, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Bernard and Alice Grabowski Cywinski. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1951, and served with the U.S. Marine Corps
in Korea during the Korean Conflict
. He was honorably discharged in 1954, attaining the rank of corporal.
Prior to retiring, Murph was a bricklayer with Bricklayers and Craftworkers Union Local 5 for 50 years.
He was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, and had been a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Church before the consolidation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 55 years, Loretta O'Malley Cywinski; sons, Edward Cywinski Jr.; Thomas Cywinski and his wife, Laurie; and Jeffrey Cywinski; a daughter, Trish Cywinski Byorick, and her husband, Daniel; grandchildren, Edward Cywinski III and his wife, Mallory; Attorney Raymond Cywinski; Jeffrey Cywinski Jr.; Ryan and Logan Cywinski; Aly Byorick; Daniel Byorick and Erin Byorick; a brother, Bernard Cywinski Jr.; and sister-in-law, Pat Simon, and her husband, Joe. Also surviving are close loved ones Pam, Lisa and Dave, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Faustina Kowalska Parish/St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, 1030 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. James R. Nash, his pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nanticoke. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
