ORANGE — Gunda Perry, 92, of Orange, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Meadows Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Dallas.
She was born in Munich, Germany, on April 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Willibald and Barbara Schwegler.
She came to Orange 65 years ago, with her husband, Joseph, whom she met while he was serving in Germany, post-World War II.
Joseph Perry passed away in 1972.
Trained as a foot specialist in Germany, she owned Perry's Shoe Store in Dallas and managed Penn Lee Footwear for over 30 years.
Being a member of the Franklin Township Fire Co. Auxiliary, she helped with many fundraising dinners. She was also a member of the Cheerio Club at the Orange Methodist Church and sang in their choir for many years.
Traveling extensively throughout her life, she toured over 27 countries. In addition, she had time for playing cards, bingo and gardening.
Gunda will be sorely missed, but will remain in our hearts, memories and prayers forever.
She is survived by her brother, Willibald, and his wife, Rosi, Germany, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is her loving friend and caretaker, Margaret Barnwell. In addition to many many loving and caring friends and neighbors, she leaves behind her beloved dog, Lucky, the love of her life.
Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
