Hendrick Marr

HARFORD, Pa. — Hendrick Marr, 85, of Harford, Pa., passed away, Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Tunkhannock.

Born Sept. 6, 1928, in Hunlock Creek, he was a son of the late Milton and Musetta (Cease) Marr. In July 1954, he married his loving wife, Nancy (James) Marr. They celebrated 59 years of marriage in July 2013.

He was a graduate of Harter High School in 1946. He also graduated from Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, in 1954 and began teaching in the Laketon School for six months until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1955. He served as a chaplain's assistant until his discharge in April 1957.

He then began his career at Mountain View School in Kingsley in 1957 as a music teacher. He earned his master's degree from Penn State University in 1968 and retired in 1993. He also taught French and English when needed.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Harford, where he was the former organist and choir director. Additionally, he served as president of the Pennsylvania Association of State Retirees for six years and was a member of the board of the Harford Fair, where he was the superintendent of gates and food stands.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Olin and Helen Marr; sister, Virginia Schroyer; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Velton Bean.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy Marr, Harford; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Gary Seidel, Bloomsburg; Lisa and Eugene Hahn, Harford; granddaughter, Leann Seidel; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marlyn Marr; sister, Lois Walk; brother-in-law, William Schroyer; sister-in-law and husband, Peg and Bob Swank; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Harford. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. to services Saturday at the church.
