John Brent Mangan, 63, Wilkes Barre, passed away unexpectedly at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital on Friday.
He was born in Wilkes Barre on Sept. 22, 1949, the son of the late Charles and Anna (Lawrick) Mangan. John was a graduate of St. Leo' s High School, Ashley and Spring Garden College, Philadelphia. He was employed for many years at Sunshine Market, Wilkes-Barre, until its closing in 2009. Most recently, he was employed by Luzerne County Transportation Authority. He was a member of St. Andrew Parish, Wilkes Barre.
John was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Preceding him in death were sister, Ann Marie Koonrad; sister-in-law, Linda Dougherty; brothers-in-law, William Dudley and William Koonrad.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years the former Molly Dougherty, at home; son John Brent Mangan Jr. and his wife Amy, Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Jillian Mangan and her fiancée Ray Wendolowski, Pittsburgh and Caitlin Mangan and her fiancée Anantoniel Figueroa, Wilkes-Barre; grandson, Elliot John Figueroa; brother, Charles Mangan Jr., Kingston; sisters, Debbie Dudley, Toms River, N.J. and Kathy Dzanis and her husband Joe, Ashley; beloved pet dog, Roxy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive along with a few aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the George A. Strish, Inc. Funeral Home, 105 North Main St., Ashley. Mass of Christian Burial is at 9:30 a.m. in St. Andrew Parish, Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
