John Joseph Yaskoweak Jr.

John Joseph "Poppy" Yaskoweak Jr. passed into the arms of the Lord on October 6, 2012 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Plymouth, on October 22, 1945, John was the son of the late John Yaskoweak of Linden, N.J.

Preceding him in death were his loving grandmother, Margaret Swentner, sister Margaret Malinowski and loving sister-in-law Mary Jane Yatsko Cefaratti.

John was a devout Catholic, serving as an altar boy while attending St. Stephen's Parochial School. He graduated from St. Vincent's High School Class of 1963 and King's College class of 1968. He was a cum laude graduate of the University of Scranton, where he earned his master's degree.

John was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 36 years. He began his accounting career at Retreat State Hospital followed by White Haven Center, where he was voted Employee of the Year. He retired from Clarks Summit State Hospital.

John was the proud grandfather ("Poppy") of Steffen and Adriana Yaskoweak, who were the joy of his life.

John was a Little League coach for Varsity Sodding for six years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, going for daily walks and watching the TV show "Seinfeld."

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Cheryl; sons, John and Mark-Aaron; grandchildren, Steffen and Adriana; mother, Margaret Yaskoweak; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Theresa (Terri) and Joseph Burgess, Joseph and Carol Yatsko, Christopher and June Yatsko, Timothy and CheryllYatsko, Gerard and Cathy Yatsko; sisters, Judy Delancy, Carol Muehlar and husband Michael; godchild, Donna Solazzo, and husband Charles; brother-in-law, Bob Malinoski; special aunt, Catherine Brazinski; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and lifelong friend Paul Kelly.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at the main site of St. Faustina's Parish, 520 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with Father James Nash officiating. Private funeral services will be held for the immediate family from the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., Nanticoke. There will be no calling hours. John will be entombed on John and Cheryl's 42nd wedding anniversary, October 10, 2012, in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Hanover Township.

John was a kind, generous and amazing soul who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
