Katherine E. "Kay" Redline

TRUCKSVILLE — Mrs. Katherine E. "Kay" Redline, RN, 80, formerly of Wilkes-Barre and the Back Mountain, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Redline was born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Harry and Marguerite Apple Nixon, and was a graduate of the GAR High School, Wilkes-Barre, with the class of 1951. She received her training as a registered nurse at the former Wyoming Valley Hospital School of Nursing and did private-duty nursing at Essex County New Jersey Isolation Hospital, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and Wyoming Valley Hospital.

She later specialized in geriatric nursing at Carpenter Nursing Home, Tunkhannock; Valley Crest, Plains Township, and Leader West Nursing Home, Kingston, retiring in 1983.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dallas, and was a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre. She had resided in Wilkes-Barre, Shavertown and San Diego before returning to the Wyoming Valley, where she lived in Trucksville prior to her illness.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Redline, who died in 2000, and by a brother, John Roger Nixon.

Surviving are her children, Susan K. Knowles, San Diego; Jane E. Smith, Trucksville; William A. Redline and his wife, Patricia, Nanticoke; Kathie DeCesaris and her husband, Joseph J., Chase; Nancy Giraldi and her husband, Samuel T., Mountain Top, and Joan H. Niedjaco and her husband, Felix, Sweet Valley; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, James Conrad Nixon; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., a Golden Rule Funeral Home, 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Private interment will be in Centermoreland Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations in Mrs. Redline's name be made to Shriner's Hospitals, c/o Irem Shrine Center, Box 307, Dallas, PA 18612.
