DALLAS — Leonard A. Dorrance Jr., 70, of Dallas, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at his residence.
Born in Pittston, he was a son of the Leonard and Victoria (Narsavage) Dorrance. He was a graduate of West Side Central Catholic High School and attended King's College. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was with the 82nd Airborne Division.
After leaving the U.S. Army, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey in 1968. He was then stationed at Troop P, Wyoming, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the American Legion Post 672. Leonard was involved with the Back Mountain Little League, was president of the Dallas Grid Iron Club, a member and past master of George M. Dallas Lodge 531, F & AM, a lifetime member of the NRA and an avid outdoorsman. Leonard was a die-hard Notre Dame football fan.
Surviving are his wife, the former Linda John; daughters, Vicky Dorrance, Trucksville; Lisa Thomas, Dallas; son, Leonard A. Dorrance III, Dallas; stepchildren, Amy Schmoyer, Allentown, Mark Whitesell, Dallas, and Will Whitesell, New York; sisters, Charlotte Kelley and Barb Yanchick, both of Dallas; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Carol Folk officiating. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of service Friday.
