DALLAS — Mark Kapitula Sr., 62, of Dallas, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the home of his son, Matthew, at Cragle Hill Road, Shickshinny.
Born on Sept. 23, 1951, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marguerite Lewis Kapitula Sr. He was a graduate of West Side Technical School, class of 1970, Pringle. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served until 1976.
Mark was a very proud father to his sons, Mark and Matthew. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 241, Lehman, and in 1997 received the District Award of Merit. He was a coach for Back Mountain T-Ball and Senior Leagues and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and friends. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 672, Dallas. He also enjoyed "raking leaves" with his brothers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Kapitula Jr., and a sister, Marguerite Pavlick.
Surviving are his sons, Mark Kapitula Jr. and his wife, Colleen, Dallas, and Matthew Kapitula and his wife, Tiara, Shickshinny; a grandson, Hunter Matthew Kapitula; a brother, David Kapitula, Shavertown; and a niece, Valerie Suda, Texas.
In celebration of Mark's life, there will be a memorial gathering from 4 to 7 p.m. on March 9 at the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the family.
