Martina Zubiri Garcia

Martina Zubiri Garcia, 87, a resident at Mercy Personal Care Unit, Dallas, passed away on June 19, 2013, from respiratory failure.

She was born as an only child in San Francisco from Spanish Basque immigrants.

Martina lived a full life and had many talents. In her early life, she enjoyed singing in the San Francisco Opera Company but gave up her early singing career in order to take care of her ailing mother in Madrid, Spain. While living in Madrid, Martina was employed for many years as a secretary for the Department of the Air Force.

Martina spoke many languages including Spanish, Italian and English. She also lived and traveled through three continents: North America, South America and Europe.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Victoriano Garcia Franco, on July 4, 2008.

Her love of travel and cultural experiences was embraced by her surviving family, which includes her children, Beatriz and Ramon; her son-in-law, David; her sister-in-law, Denise; and her five grandchildren, Martin, Julia, Miguel, Galiana and Isabel.

Martina was always eager to accept the challenges that life presented her with courage and cheer. She brought music, love and unconditional support to her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A private ceremony will be held by her family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Desiderio Funeral Home Inc.,436 South Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top.
