Rita M. Mercuri

SCRANTON — Rita M. Mercuri, of Scranton, died Friday morning, June 20, 2014, at home. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Michael G. Mercuri.

Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Joseph "Doc" and Helen Kunauskas Celusniak and was a graduate of St. John's High School, Pittston. She earned a bachelor's degree in music from the former Wilkes College.

Prior to retirement, she worked as an elementary and intermediate music teacher for the Pittston Area School District for 35 years. She was the organist for the First Presbyterian Church in Pittston for 40 years.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Also surviving are a son, Michael J. Mercuri, at home; stepdaughter, Melissa Looney and her husband, Kevin, Medford, New Jersey; stepson, Nathan Mercuri, Rochester, New York; sister, Ann Marie Curry and her husband, Dave, Milford, Michigan; step-granddaughter, Kieran Grace; niece, Sarah Pessat and her husband, Dan, Richmond, Virginia; aunts, Anna "Nancy" Sellock and Genevieve "Gena" Scatena; numerous cousins.

The funeral with Mass will be at noon Thursday in the Divine Mercy Parish, Davis Street, Scranton. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Interment is private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the , 3001 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011; or the donor's favorite charity.
