Rose Chiarelli

PITTSTON — Rose Chiarelli, Pittston, passed away peacefully at Highland Manor, Exeter, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

Born in Pittston on Dec. 21, 1919, she was the last surviving child of the Nicoli and Carmella Miceli. She was the wife of the late Charles Chiarelli, with whom she partnered in owning Chiarelli's Grocery Store in Pittston for 40 years.

Her family was her greatest treasure. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Rose was a lifetime member of St. Rocco's Church, Christian mothers and was devoted to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. For 40 years, she was instrumental in designing and making the capes that adorned the Blessed Mother during the month of October and for the yearly procession.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, preceding her in death were infant son, Frank; grandson Michael Callahan; sisters, Susan Maria, Catherine Ricotta, Vita Manganaro; brothers, Philip, Joseph, Sam and James Miceli, Frank and Angelo Russo.

Surviving are daughters, Carmella and her husband, Ray Dziewit, West Wyoming; Catheirne and Vincent Galasso, Wilmington, Delaware; grandsons Mark Callahan and his fiancee, Francesca Jumper, and David Callahan; granddaughters, Maria Evans, Rosalind Jacono, Joanne Galasso; great-grandchildren, Rocky Jacono, Samuel Evans, Charles and Michael Callahan. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

At Rose's request, a special thank-you is extended to her grandson Mark, who cared for her and allowed her to remain in her home. Thanks are also given to her nieces, Dr. Carmella Sebastian and Maria and her husband, Chester Montante, who were by her side when she needed.

The family gives special thanks to Dr. Joseph Lombardo, Dr. Mauer Biscotti, who took care of Rose all her life; Bayada Home Health Care; Celtic Home Health and Hospice and the staff at Highland Manor for their exceptional care.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township.

Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday. Those who plan on attending should be at the funeral home no later than 12:30 p.m. Calling hours will be noon to services at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. from St. Joseph Marello Parish, William Street, Pittston.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
