Rose M. Shurmanek

WEST PITTSTON — Rose M. Shurmanek, 74, formerly of Pittston and most recently of West Pittston, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Taylor.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 24, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Columbia Sabatina Berkise.

She was a graduate of Hanover High School. Rose had been employed as a waitress for more than 30 years, having worked in various restaurants in the Wyoming Valley.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston, and a member of the Golden Age Club at St. Barbara Parish, Exeter. Rose loved casino trips, playing bingo and playing cards with her card group at the Garden Village Apartments. She was an avid dog lover. She also enjoyed going out to restaurants and movies.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her best friend, Janette Campbell.

Surviving are her daughter and caregiver, Gina Marie Rosser, Avoca; daughter, Debra Ann Kivak and her husband, Thomas, Dupont; grandsons, Michael Kivak and his fiancee, Tori De Biasi, Thomas Kivak and Christopher Kivak; half-brother, Vincent Perta, Plains Township; and her grand-dog, Tiana.

The family extends a special thank you to the Association of the Blind, Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Caregivers of America, especially Patty Lazar, Dr. Mauer Biscotti and Dr. David Dalessandro for the excellent care they provided to Rose.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
