DUNMORE — Rose M. Thornton, 84, a lifelong Dunmore resident, died early Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James P. Thornton, who died in 1994.
Born in Scranton, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mamie Trotta Telesco, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of Sts. Anthony and Rocco Parish. Rose enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, going to dinner, the movies and the casino, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Rose is survived by sons James Thornton and his wife, Cathy, Elmira, N.Y., and Anthony Thornton and his wife, Donna, Mountain Top; her daughter, Rosemary Thornton, and her husband, Gerard Randolph, Warren, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Mary Washinko, Exton; grandchildren, Joseph Washinko, Conshohocken; Alexis Mengel, Elmira; Dalton Bennett, Mountain Top; Hannah Thornton, Mountain Top; Amelia Randolph and William Randolph, both of Warren; great-granddaughter, Hailey Colon, Elmira; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Washinko; son Joseph M. Washinko; sister, Lucy Telesco Serapiglia; and brothers, William, Patrick, Charles and Daniel Telesco.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Dunmore. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
