Stephen Bowanko Jr.

Stephen Bowanko Jr., 83, of Thornhurst Road, Bear Creek Township, died Monday, October 1, 2012, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in the Hudson Section of Plains Township, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna Natishan Bowanko. He was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1947, and was a member of St Mark's Church, Thornhurst.

Steve was formerly employed at Acme Warehouse and Craft Associates. He loved having his Fourth of July parties and having a big garden. He loved picking blueberries, mushrooms and playing Santa Claus by giving all his friends mushrooms for Christmas.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Butler Bowanko; son, John Bowanko; brother, Edward Roschak and his wife, Judy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Michael Silla, John Butler, Joseph and Sharon Butler; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mark's Church, Thornhurst. Relatives and friends may call Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St Mark's Church.

Arrangements are by Yeosock Funeral Home, Plains Township.
