Dear Conyngham Family,
George Bernard Shaw, in a short autobiographical sketch, said about his musically talented mother that
"To her living was not an art, it was just something that happened."
In contrast, Jack and Lou Conyngham have lived their lives in such a beautifully intelligent manner that it is an inspiration to all of us. And how Jack will be missed by the huge number of us whose lives he has touched with his extraordinary warmth, grace, and humor.
In Jack's memory I would like to quote part of a poem written by Thomas Moore (1789-1852), which I first heard as recited by Governor Arthur James when he was presented the Wyoming Seminary Distinguished Service Award not long before his death. (Jack Conyngham was in the audience.)
"Let Fate do her worst, there are relics of joy,
Bright dreams of the past, which she cannot destroy;
Which come in the night-time of sorrow and care,
And bring back the features that joy used to wear.
Long, long be my heart with such memories fill'd!
Like the vase, in which roses have once been distill'd --
You may break, you may shatter the vase, if you will,
But the scent of the roses will hang round it still."
Jack Conyngham was truly, and in every respect, a "Prince of a man." So in the words of Shakespeare,
"Good night sweet Prince,
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

The Reynolds family will miss Jack Conyngham. These special friendships don't come along often. More than the common ties that bound good friends together, such as sharing a suite in Davenport College at Yale after the war, or fishing at Potatuck, it was Jack's personality and values that inspired loyal friendship. Who would not have wanted to be his friend?! Our sincere condolences to the Conyngham family.

Our heartfelt sympathy is sent to Mrs. Conyngham & family. My father is so sorry not to be able to express his sympathy in person. So glad we got to visit and spend time with Mr. & Mrs. Conyngham a few summers ago. Many wonderful stories they shared as children, sneaking taste of cooling pies & homemade fudge my grandmother would put on the windowsill at a house at Hillside. Amusing stories of my Dad & Jack staying on the second floor of the South River Street home during the Agnes flood. Using row boats to find food, batteries, steaks and good whiskey to hold them over until the flood waters receded. Both laughing so hard reminiscing of that time, they had tears in their eyes. So many dear memories will live in my father's heart of his time working with this wonderful family.
With prayers & sincere sympathy from our family,

Growing up in the land of Conyngham was a wonderful experience. Being neighbor to Guthrie and Bill was an enlightening experience. Watching the boys pluck feathers from ducks or hanging their waders to dry. I learned a lot from them. Time spent at the farm playing by the stream and around the greenhouse I was always greeted with a smile. These memories will be with me forever.

Uncle Jack was a mentor, fishing partner, Upland Bird hunting partner, and friend to me. More than anyone else, he taught me to give back to the community, be fiercely loyal to the family, love your own kids, and enjoy a cold beer at the end of a day of trout or salmon fishing.
Tight lines in Heaven Uncle Jack!

How very sad for the last Conyngham brother and icon to leave us on earth. Most of my memories of Uncle Jack were always at Bear Lake, ESPCO, or with the rest of the Conyghams at parties. I always enjoyed my time spent with Uncle Jack and Aunt Lou. They were always interested about my life. Uncle Jack always made me laugh and smile; especially when he would talk about his brother Guthrie. Last October I spent time with Thamsin Bowes at Bear Lake. Sarah was driving Uncle Jack around the lake and they stopped to visit. He was so pleased to see all his girls and could not wait to go home and tell his wife. It is one of my fondest memories that I will hold very dear to my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time. It it is never easy to lose a parent. My brother John Smith also sends his regards.
