CLARKS SUMMIT — Charles W. Taylor, 87, formerly of Clarks Summit, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, in United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus, Pittston, where he had been a resident since November 2012.

Born in Wilkes Barre, Aug. 2, 1927, he was a son of the late Joseph and Emma Pearson Taylor. He was a 1945 graduate of West Pittston High School, where he competed in various high school sports. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, West Pittston. Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. After serving in the Navy, he pursued a trade in carpentry until his retirement in 1989.

He was an avid bowler. Charles was well-known as a modern western square dance caller in the area and various Pocono resorts.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan Taylor, with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on Oct. 9, 2013; nephews, Robert, Alan and Richard Drummond; niece, Donna Drummond, and cousin, Lorraine Shapell.

The family of Charles would like to thank the staff and doctors at Wesley Village Campus for their care and support during his stay.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Rev. Nancy Pitely will officiate. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming.
