PLAINS TWP. — Erald A. Biondi, 85, of Plains Township, passed peacefully at home Thursday morning, April 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Rome, New York, he was a son of the late Alfred and Rose Mannini Biondi. He moved to the area at an early age and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1946.
After graduation, Erald joined the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He continued his education via the GI Bill, pursuing an engineering degree. After working in the local mines, he began work with Kanarr Corp., Wilkes-Barre. He was later employed by Wilmont Engineering, White Haven, retiring as plant superintendent in 1991.
Erald and his wife of 66 years, the former Delphine Santarelli, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, returning to their favorite city of San Francisco several times.
Erald was an avid boccie ball player, belonging to the Yatesville Boccie Club for many years. He also enjoyed bingo and the "Cashman slot" at local casinos. However, he most enjoyed family gatherings.
Erald was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township.
In addition to his wife, Delphine, he is survived by daughters, Barbara Barbacci and her husband, Robert, Dallas; Janice Canterini and her husband, Joseph, Plains Township, and Debra Raudenbush and her husband, Dean, White Haven; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home, 293 S. River St., Plains Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township. Interment will be at the Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
