WILKES-BARRE — James J. Casey Sr., of Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 23, 2013, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Ashley on July 12, 1934, a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Grogan Casey, he was a graduate of St. Leo's High School and attended King's College. Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed at Techneglas prior to retiring.
He was a member and usher for St. Robert Bellarmine Parish (St. Aloysius Church), its Holy Name Society, a charter member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. John Neuman Division, and other civic and religious organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, the former Mary Susan O'Donnell; loving daughter, Mary Colleen Casey; brothers, Thomas, Leonard, Donald, Joseph, Leo, Patrick, Gerald; and sisters, Aveline Halesy and Catherine Kennedy.
Mr. Casey is survived by sons, James J. Casey Jr., Wilkes-Barre, Thomas Casey and his wife, Lisa, Wilkes-Barre, Liam Casey and his wife, Maura, Lebanon; five grandchildren, Caitlin, Madeline, Chloe, Rowan and Kara; sister, Regina Purcell, Wilkes-Barre; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday from the Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, 143 Division St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Kevin Mulherin will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. His family will begin receiving friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
