John "Yank" B. Bosak, 87, of Milbre Street, Swoyersville, died on Friday at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late John Bosak, his mother, Mary Vocharchak, and his stepfather, John Fabian. He attended Swoyersville High School. He served in the Merchant Marines for 23 years and was a veteran of World War II.
Yank resided for most of his life in Swoyersville and on Eleanor Street in Shavertown. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by PennDOT as a heavy equipment operator for 25 years.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne. He was also a member of the Swoyersville American Legion and the VFW Post 283, Kingston. He was a life member of the Blue Ridge Gun Club and the Swoyersville Senior Citizens.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Helen Del Bianco; brother, George Fabian; and granddaughter, Nicole Bosak.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Theresa Leonard; daughters, Annmarie Tyler and her husband, Ned, Dalton, and Carolyn Bosak, Exeter; sons, John and his wife, Cynthia, Hunlock Creek, Thomas and his wife, Deanna, Sweet Valley, Leonard Bosak and companion, Jack Watkins, Kingston; grandchildren, Jacklyn Barris and her husband, Joel, Rebecca Clause and her husband, David, Bethany, Christa, Mackenzie, Alicia and her husband, Jordan, Dale and his wife, Danielle; Mark, Tyler, Alissa, Laurin; great-grandchildren, Lucy, Tyler, Kayden and Evan; nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Lehman Gregory Funeral Home Inc., 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with Father Michael Zipay officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family thanks the nurses and staff at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and Fersineus and Hospice of the Sacred Heart, for their fine care.
