KINGSTON — John M. Moore Jr., 81, of Kingston, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, surrounded by loved ones.

Born March 12, 1933, in Wilkes Barre, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his father, John M. Moore, and by his mother, Ernestine Thatcher Moore Drummond. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary Day School and Wyoming Seminary, and went on to attend Harvard University.

Mr. Moore maintained residences in Kingston and Harveys Lake as well as a cottage on Ballston Beach in Truro, Mass., on Cape Cod.

Mr. Moore was a champion of local business. He was a member of the Board of the Bertels Can Co. and took a great interest in the Luzerne National Bank. The successes of both enterprises brought him enormous pleasure. For many years he served as treasurer of the Harveys Lake Yacht Club.

Mr. Moore enjoyed swimming, boating, sailing, trap shooting and an occasional game of bridge. Quick to laugh and blessed with an inquisitive mind, he enjoyed nature shows, science and history. He was a true connoisseur of classical music, and his appreciation spread to a wide and eclectic range of music. However, nothing pleased him more than sharing his home and hospitality on Cape Cod with his family and his friends.

Surviving are his loving companion of 45 years, Barbara R. Musnuff; as well as family members, John J. Musnuff and his wife, Kay, High Bridge, N.J., and Basil J. Musnuff and his wife, Maggie, Hudson, Ohio. Mr. Moore is also survived by grandchildren, Iva F. Musnuff, Richard G. Musnuff, Avery R. Musnuff and Franklin C. Musnuff.
