SHAMOKIN DAM — Joseph M. Molitoris, 82, of 10th Avenue, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.
He was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Mocanaqua, a son of the late Jan and Catherine (Trudnak) Molitoris. He was married to the former Anita J. Cavallini, who survives.
Joseph was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a 1950 graduate of Shickshinny High School and a 1957 graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College, graduating in the first class of servicemen.
Joseph taught school from 1958 to 1992 in Selinsgrove High School, where he was a social studies teacher. He also was the assistant athletic director and coached football and baseball.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Selinsgrove, where he had served as an usher.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 and American Legion Post 52, both of Selinsgrove; Union County Sportmen's Club; the Mid-Penn Sportmen's Club; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173, Selinsgrove; and the Catholic War Veterans, Berwick.
He was an avid hunter and he also enjoyed gardening and sports.
He was preceded by in death by one brother, Jan Molitoris; and one sister, Elizabeth Kaminski.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Linda Molitoris, Mountain Top, Frank and Suzanne Molitoris, Harrisburg, and John and Kelly Molitoris, Freeburg; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Aubri, Emily, Sarah, Laura, Jarred, Megan and Justin Molitoris; one great-granddaughter, Ella Harlan; one sister, Rita Evarts, Mocanaqua; and his mother-in-law, Nellie Shapkoff, Mocanaqua.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mayo Funeral Home, 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, followed by burial in Ascension Cemetery, Mocanaqua. Arrangements though the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
