NANTICOKE — Joseph M. (Zak) Zakrzewski, 69, of New Grant Street, Nanticoke, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2013 at home.
He was born in Nanticoke and was the son of the late Eugene and Louise Schneikart Zakrzewski. Joseph was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, Class of 1964, and a member of St. Faustina Parish, formerly St. Mary's Church, Nanticoke. He was also a member of Washington Hose Co., Catholic War Veterans, Ashley; White Eagle Club and 6 County Fireman's Association. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Grand Canyon as a radar man with the 6th Fleet. He worked for several years as a salesman for Lowe's Home Improvement, Wilkes-Barre.
He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren Jiana and Kaitlyn, and an avid fisherman.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carole O'Donnell and by a sister, Mary Lou.
Presently surviving are sons, Joseph Jr. and wife Laura, Nanticoke; Thomas, Nanticoke; brother, Eugene Zak, Florida; nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Jiana and Kaitlyn.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C,. 51-53, W. Green St., Nanticoke, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Faustina Parish Church, St. Mary's site, Nanticoke, with the Rev. James Nash, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Nanticoke. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
