Lois E. Frantz

MESHOPPEN — Mrs. Lois E. Frantz, 82, passed away May 8, 2014, at her home on Frantz Road in Meshoppen.

Lois was born July 22, 1931, in Lemon, and was the eighth child of the late Robert S. Wilson, who passed away on Sept. 4, 1968, and the late Mary (Fisher) Wilson, who passed away on Nov. 21, 1989.

She was raised on a farm in Lymanville. She attended Lymanville, Springville and Tunkhannock schools and graduated in 1948.

On July 22, 1948, she married the late Ivan Laird Frantz, who passed away on July 12, 1990. Together they operated a dairy farm, raised tomatoes and enjoyed square dancing. Lois enjoyed playing cards, baking and the company of family and friends.

Lois served as Meshoppen Township Tax Collector for 12 years. She was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, past member of the Order of Eastern Star, Meshoppen Chapter No. 70, and Loyal Order of the Moose, Tunkhannock charter.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Frantz, on May 4, 1973; grandson, Gene Andrew Matusavige, on May 1, 1981; brothers, Arthur Wilson, Bruce Wilson; sisters, Roberta Taylor, Betty Morris and Ruth Clatterbuck.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Judy (Ron) Oliver and Marjorie (Tom) Walters, and a son, Jeffrey (Mary) Frantz, all of Meshoppen; grandchildren, Gordon (Michelle) Matusavige, Centermoreland, Gary (Rebecca Pasake) Matusavige, Meshoppen, Sara (Todd) Oliver-Traver, Tunkhannock, Shannon Oliver, Meshoppen, Melisa Ford, Mehoopany, Shawn (Tony) Jagger, Tunkhannock, Jason Walters, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Matt Walters, Meshoppen; great-grandchildren, Gordon Matusavige and Gene Edward Matusavige; brothers, Saxon (Thelma) Wilson and Paul (June) Wilson, Tunkhannock; as well as several nieces and nephews.

As per her request, there will be no calling hours or services. A private committal service will be held upon cremation at the burial site of her late husband in Carverton Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 State Route 6, Meshoppen.
