Mary A. Miano, 81, of Exeter, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Exeter, she was a daughter of the late Guy and Millie Licata Pepe.
Mary was a member of Corpus Christi Parish at Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston.
She was a graduate of Exeter High School and received her undergraduate degree from Misericordia University as well as her master's degree from the University of Scranton.
Mary was a beloved elementary school teacher, having taught in the Wyoming Area School District for 40 years, where she also served as principal for five years. She positively impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues.
Mary is survived by her caring brother, Phil Pepe, Exeter; her daughter Dyan Billal and her beloved granddaughter, Sofia, both of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Sofia's father, Mancini Billal; daughter Denise Anastasio (Steven), New York City; her dearest friend, Helen Rava, Duryea; and many loving friends and relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi as celebrant. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Relatives and friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter. Interment will be in the West Pittston Cemetery.
The family thanks Gena and Britney for their loving and compassionate care of Mary during her illness.
