HANOVER TWP. — Raymond (Buzzy) Long, 73, of the Newtown section of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully on March 23rd at Community Hospice, St. Luke's Villa, Wilkes-Barre.
Born June 20, 1940, he was a son of the late Raymond (Buzzy) and Arline (Bell) Long.
Raymond was born and raised in the Preston section of Hanover Township. He was a 1958 graduate of Hanover High School and served in the United States Marine Corp.
Raymond was employed by the United States Post Office as a letter carrier for 40 years, prior to his retirement. He and his late wife, Elizabeth (Betty) also owned and operated the former Buzzy's Inn Tavern in Ashley for many years.
He was a member of St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley; the Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. John Neuman Division; National Letter Carriers Association No. 115; Amvets Post 59; Catholic War Veterans Post 274; American Legion Post 495 and B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 709.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Arnold) Long.
Surviving are his children, Elizabeth Reddington, Nanticoke; Joseph Palladino, Warrior Run; Maureen Danko, Hanover Township; Mary Engleman, Hanover Township; sister, Joy Malia, Preston; brother, John Long, Sugar Notch; grandchildren, Amy Pyrah, Joseph and Jason Palladino, Jack Danko, Paige Elizabeth, Conor Raymond and Tyler Engleman; great grandchildren, Cole Pyrah, Juliana Palladino and Hanna Van-Alstine Palladino; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 9:00 am from the Lehman Family Funeral Service, Inc. 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Church, Ashley. Father Richard Cirba will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
