Richard H. Widman, 89, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Little Flower Manor in Wilkes-Barre.
He was born in Nanticoke on May 5, 1924, a son of the late Adolph and Mildred Thomas Widman. He was a graduate of Meyers High School. He received his business degree from Wilkes College and his master's degree from Alfred University in Wellsville, N.Y.
Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as a school teacher at Wellsville High School in New York.
Richard was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane, and by his daughter, Debbie Widman; brother, William Widman; sister, Ruth Tomalis.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Dorothy E. Albrecht Widman; son, Ronald Widman and his wife, Debbie, Macomb, Mich.; grandchildren, Douglas and Kristen Widman; brother, James Widman, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Ruth and Lois Albrecht, Wilkes-Barre, and Carol Dobbs, Hanover Township; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 56 S. Hancock St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Mary E. Laufer, pastor, will officiate.
