Robert E. "Bob" Clapper

MESHOPPEN — Robert "Bob" E. Clapper, 86, of 579 McMicken Road, Meshoppen, passed away, Thursday evening, Feb. 20, 2014, at his home in Meshoppen Township, Wyoming County. Bob was formerly of Retta.

Bob was born on June 24, 1927, in Towanda, a son of the late Lloyd Joseph Clapper, who passed on June 25, 1985, and Florence Howard Clapper, who passed on Nov. 9, 1995.

He was a graduate of Laceyville High School with the class of 1944. After high school, Bob served his country for 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 as a chief master sergeant.

Bob then moved back to Wyoming County and worked for Procter & Gamble before retiring in 1989.

Bob was an active member of the Franklin Lodge No. 263 F&AM in Laceyville. As a Mason, he was a Past Master in 1993, a past secretary and a current trustee. He was also a past member of the Irem Temple. Bob thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Lorraine Clapper, on Nov. 5, 1990, whom he married in September 1950; his brothers Lt. Richard Clapper, July 6, 1960, and Donald Clapper, Jan. 15, 2007; and his sister, Janice Hammond, 2013.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Barbara Kapolka and her husband, Stephen, Wilkes-Barre, and Patricia Clapper, Meshoppen; his grandsons, Alex Clapper, Meshoppen, Robert Kapolka, Wilkes-Barre, and Anthony Kapolka, Wilkes-Barre; his sister-in-law, Ruth Clapper, Retta; as well as nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sheldon Funeral Home, State Route 6, Meshoppen, with the Rev. Gary Myers of the Meshoppen Biblical Baptist Church officiating. There will be military services preformed prior to the funeral service by the members of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion, Black Walnut, the Dennis Strong Post No. 457, Tunkhannock, and the Endless Mountains VFW Post No. 3583, Mehoopany. The military service will be followed by a masonic service preformed by the members of Franklin Lodge No. 263 F&AM, Laceyville. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the services Sunday.
