Stephen M. Hotz, 93, formerly of the Hudson section of Plains Township, fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, May 2, 2013, in California.
Born April 17, 1920 in Hudson, he was a son of the late Michael T. and Mary (Kropsho) Hutz.
A graduate of the former Plains High School, class of 1938, Mr. Hotz went on to continue his education by attaining a Bachelor of Science in education from Bloomsburg University. He then continued his studies by attaining his master's degree in education from the University of Southern California. He attended Rutgers, UCLA, Pepperdine and again the University of Southern California for further studies in his post-graduate work.
Until his retirement, Mr. Hotz was employed as a teaching administrator for the ABC Unified Co. of Cerritos, Calif., for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
He previously was self-employed in several business endeavors.
Mr. Hotz held memberships in Phi Delta Kappa, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge of San Marino, Calif., and the BKAL Lodge of Long Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, John, Nicholas, Joseph, Lawrence and Andrew Hutz, and Mary Uram, Anna Yatsko, Eva Bartosh, Dolores Proeller, Mary Hutz and Helen Deletconish.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
The funeral with requiem services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Very Rev. Joseph Martin, pastor of Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Cathedral, officiating. Interment will follow in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Midland Avenue, Dallas. Relatives and friends may join Mr. Hotz's family for visitation and remembrances Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
