WILKES-BARRE — Wayne T. Kogoy Sr., 59, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, with his family by his side.
He was born Sept. 8, 1954, in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late John and Grace Thomas Kogoy. He was a 1972 graduate of Coughlin High School and was an Army veteran. He was a sheet-metal worker working out of Local 44 union prior to retiring due to his illness.
Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and coin collecting. He was a Boy Scout leader and coach for the Mayflower Little League. He enjoyed participating in activities with his sons and going on fishing trips with them and his best friends, Tom Hayward and Rick Yale.
He will be missed by his family, friends, neighbors and his dogs, Dakotah and Shilah, who are his buddies.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Richard Allen Kogoy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick Kerrigan and his staff as well as Dr. Stephanie Fuller of the University of Pennsylvania for the care that Wayne received. Kristina Kogoy and Arielle Balestrini assisted with taking care of Wayne when he was at home.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, the former Shirley L. Wren; sons, Wayne T. Kogoy Jr. and his wife, Kristina, his favorite daughter-in-law; Kyle Kogoy; brothers, John Kogoy and his wife, Diane; Gary Kogoy; sister, Joan Oley.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Andy Jerome, pastor of Parsons Primitive Methodist Church. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to the
