Tony Gribb, 90, son of the late John and Sadie Gribb, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, in Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

He was born in the Hanover Section of Nanticoke and attended Nanticoke public schools. Upon graduation from Nanticoke High School, he was drafted into the United States military and served with the 401st Field Artillery Battalion in France, Germany and Austria during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, Mr. Gribb entered the University of Scranton, from where he graduated in 1950. After graduation, Mr. Gribb joined Pomeroy's Inc., where he had the distinction of serving as general manager of all three stores, downtown Wilkes-Barre, Midway Shopping Center and eventually the Wyoming Valley Mall, where he became the first general manager of the store that is presently owned by Bon-Ton.

During his lifetime, Mr. Gribb also served in numerous service organizations. He served on the board of directors for the first Redevelopment Authority of the City of Nanticoke, was a member of Nanticoke Post 350 American Legion and was a member of the Wyoming Valley Country Club for many years. He also served as president of the Wyoming Valley Mall Merchants Association.

After retirement, Mr. Gribb taught for 18 years at Hanover Area High School as a substitute teacher.

Mr. Gribb was a member of St. Faustina Parish, formerly Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke, where he served as an usher and an altar server. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Edward, Leon, Kaz, Joseph; and sister, Amelia.

Mr. Gribb is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; his son, James; daughter, Joan Sholtis; his brother John; and grandson, Jacob Sholtis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Charles V. Sherbin Funeral Home, 630 Main Road, Hanover Green, Hanover Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Faustina's on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
