Carl A. McGuire, age 78, of Kingston Township, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Moosic, Carl was the son of the late Herbert and Ethel Griffiths McGuire. He attended Moosic High School and was a frequent attendee of many Moosic High All-Class Reunions.

Carl was employed for 35 years and retired from the Chamberlain Corp., Scranton. He never retired from his favorite occupation of farming and maintaining his tractors.

He was well known for his ability to jury-rig anything that was broken or needed repairs. His adaptations and inventions were classic.

He was a legendary practical joker who loved a good laugh. His friends and co-workers have volumes of stories about his antics.

Carl was extremely proud of the achievements of his grandchildren. He secretly puffed up his chest at their successes while maintaining his gruff exterior and offering critiques about what more they should do.

He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were son-in-law, Raymond Karalunas, and brothers-in-law, Stanley and Edmund Krispin, and Peter Romanowski.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Josephine Krispin; Kingston Township; daughters, Laura O'Malley and husband Patrick, Centermoreland; Melinda McGuire and husband Robert Blaskiewicz, E. Dallas; Carol McGuire, Dallas; Marianne Karalunas, E. Dallas; grandchildren, Cody Lee Karalunas, Kelsey Marie Blaskiewicz; brother, Donald McGuire, and wife Florence, Moosic; favorite aunt and best friend, Beverly Gilhooley, Glendale; numerous nieces and nephews, including his special nephews who were like sons learning about farming and tractors at his side, especially Peter and Tim Romanowski and Daniel, Robert and James Krispin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Frances Cabrini Church, 585 Mt. Olivet Road, Carverton. The Rev. Vincent Dang will officiate.

Interment will be made in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be sent to Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce St., Kingston, PA 18704 or to St. Frances Cabrini Church, 585 Mt. Olivet Road, Wyoming, PA 18644.

Carl's family wish to offer a special thank you to Father Vincent Dang, whose friendship Carl treasured. As a result of conversation with Father Dang, Carl decided to join the Catholic Faith and was the proud recipient of the sacraments of the church on Dec. 23, 2012.

Also, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Arthur Mitchell and Dr. Jeffrey D'Andrea for their years of care.
