HANOVER TWP. — Catherine H. Powell, 95, long-time resident of the Korn Krest section of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Guardian Elder Care, Sheatown.

Born March 8, 1923, in West Nanticoke, she was one of 13 children of the late Frank and Rose (Zablocky) Gronkowski. She attended Holy Trinity parochial school and worked in the local factories prior to her marriage to Robert Powell.

Catherine was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish and formerly Holy Trinity Church prior to the consolidation of parishes. The most important part of her life was her family and home, and she was known as "Gram" to everyone.

Her husband, Robert, passed away Aug. 18, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Powell; and daughter Rosemary Markowski; as well as all 12 of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by six grandchildren, Daniel Markowski Jr. (Lori Ann), Christine Yale (Ryan) and Mari Stout (companion Duane Sullivan), all of Nanticoke, Karen Bigos (Mark), of Alden Station, Holly Powell, of Suffern, N.Y., and Aimee Powell, of Nanticoke; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren: Mallory, Bradley, Hunter, Walker, Scottie, Kaitlyn and Michael; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday from Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Main Site, 520 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. James Alco as celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Viewing and visitation will be from 9 a.m. until transferal to the church Thursday.
