Daniel Sekera Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, crossed the great divide on the morning of Thursday Oct. 18, 2012, at the age of 71.

Although the local fish celebrated this news, his friends and family will forever be heavyhearted. Dan's straightforward character, deadpan wit, generosity and love will be sorely missed by those who survive him, his mother, Irene, Luzerne; his wife, Lorraine (Lori), Kingston; his sister, Carol, Luzerne; his sons, Daniel W. Sekera and his wife, Janis, Luzerne; Jeff Meade and his wife, Sherry, Wyoming; Greg Meade, Freeland; Scott Meade, Stroudsburg; as well as his three grandchildren.

Dan was born on the third of June, 1941, in Luzerne, where he was reared and educated. He was a son of Irene Buzunis Sekera and the late Daniel Sekera. He was employed by Bonner Chevrolet in Kingston, and served in various management positions there for more than 45 years. To the dismay of his many loyal customers, as well as the local fish, he retired in 2009. After retirement, Dan lived every day as if it were the weekend. If he and his wife were not riding the back roads of Pennsylvania, basking in the surrounding beauty, he would be in his boat out on the river, or kicked back in his chair watching the race.

He was a man of few words, but infinite wisdom. With maxims such as "buy cheap, eat s!#*t" and "sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug," Dan's advice was always poignant and humorous.

He was a simple man who could not be bothered with pomp and circumstance, so at his request there will be no public calling hours. However, a Funeral Mass will be held at the Resurrection of the Lord Polish National Catholic Church on Zerby Ave. in Edwardsville on Monday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Pawel Filip, pastor, will officiate, and interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Lehman Township. Those attending the Funeral Mass on Monday are asked to go directly to the church.

Flowers, although beautiful and customary, are merely temporary reminders of the love we all feel; so, memorial donations in Mr. Sekera's name may be made to his church, Resurrection of the Lord Polish National Church, 35 Zerby Ave., Edwardsville PA, 18704. Arrangements have been entrusted to the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., a Golden Rule Funeral Home, 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.
