Donald Smith, White Haven, died Saturday evening, April 6, 2013, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Edwardsville, a son of the late Peter and Mary Balog Smith, he was a graduate of Edwardsville High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Wilkes College and graduated from Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, Texas, SMC Logistics Intern Training Center. He served in the U.S. Air Force as staff sergeant during the Korean War and chairman of the NATO working party in Brussels, Belgium. Donald was employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot for 36 years and retired as chief of distribution planning division LOGSA PSCC.
Mr. Smith was a member of St. Patrick's Church, White Haven; chairman of the White Haven municipal authority; involved with the Cub Scouts and an avid Penn State football fan.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Smith, and sister, Wilma Callahan.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, the former Elaine Ackers; sons, Kirk P. Smith and his wife, Robin, Mason, N.H., and Keith D. Smith and his wife, Laura, White Haven; four grandchildren, Sophia, Coleman, Sabrina and William; brother, Raymond Smith and his wife, Dorothy, Dallas; nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 403 Berwick St., White Haven, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, White Haven. The Rev. John McHale will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
