Eleanor (Ellie) Maroun Gerchak passed away peacefully, Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, with her family by her side.

Born Sept. 15, 1932, in Danbury, Conn., Ellie was a daughter of the late John and Stella Maroun. Ellie was a graduate of Danbury High School and attended college. She worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., prior to her marriage.

Ellie was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who recently celebrated her 80th birthday with family and close friends.

She was an avid bridge player, a member of ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) reaching the level of NABC. She was very active at duplicate bridge at the Jewish Community Center and ran a Marathon Bridge Tournament at Irem Temple to benefit the Children's Research Hospital in Philadelphia. Ellie was a member of the Red Hat Society of Dallas and the Sister Act.

Always a religious person, Ellie sought comfort in her strong faith, always praying for others and raising their spirits with her angelic voice. She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph John Gerchak; brothers, Fred Maroun, Joe, Phillip Bargolla; and sister, Janet Swan.

Surviving are her daughter, Trudy Clemson, Dallas; son, Joseph Gerchak Jr. and wife, Carol, West Wyoming; five grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher Clemson, Gina, Zachary and Valerie Gerchak; sister, Frieda Athans, New Milford, Conn.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, PA 18708. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Ave., Dallas. The Rev. Daniel A. Toomey will officiate. Interment will be made in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
