Elizabeth J. Levitsky "Betty" Chepalis

PITTSTON — Elizabeth "Betty" J. Levitsky Chepalis, 85, formerly of Waynesboro, Va., passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Issaquah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Issaquah, Wash., after suffering a stroke nine years ago.

She was born April 11, 1933, in Pittston, the youngest daughter of the late Michael and Veronica Greblick Levitsky.

Mrs. Chepalis was a registered nurse who began her career in New York City before becoming a stay-at-home mother. After returning to work, she retired from Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Va. While living in Waynesboro, Va., she was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Survivors include one son, Jim Chepalis and wife Jackie, of Cartersville, Ga.; three daughters, Sue Hart and husband Bob, of Phoenixville, Regina Chepalis, of Ashburn, Va., and Edy Shirley and husband Matt, of Lyndhurst, Va.; one sister, Veronica Silberman, of Maplewood, N.J.; 12 grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Kevin Marik, Will and wife Sara Hart, Tracy and husband Andy Randolph, Andrew Hart, Katie Chepalis, Alex, Samantha and Chris Chepalis, Paige, Katelyn, Matthew and MacKenzie Shirley. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Caden and Rae Randolph, Ruby Hart and Crosby Marik.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alex B. Chepalis; sisters Anna Stanis and Florence McKeever; and brothers George Stanis, Casmir Stanis, Ignatius Stanis and Leroy Levitsky.

Following cremation, a funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, with burial to follow.
