Francis J. Wallace , 91, a lifelong resident of Plains, died peacefully on Thursday April 4, 2013 at River Street Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anna Krupsha Wallace.

Born in Plains, he was the son of the late Jacob and Anna Shedlock Wallace. Mr. Wallace was a graduate of the first class of King's College (1951) and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He was an entrepreneur who operated several businesses in the Wyoming Valley. Francis was a proud U.S. Army lieutenant in the Pacific theater during World War II and remained active in several veterans organizations until his death.

His civic involvement included serving on the Plains Township Board of Commissioners, the Plains American Legion, the Wilkes-Barre Sacred Heart Slovak Church and Slovak Club, Plains Youth Baseball and Sports Hall of Fame, and several local Credit Union Boards. He was an avid sports fan, following the Phillies, Penn State football and numerous local high school and youth teams.

Mr. Wallace is survived by his four children, Eugene (wife Karlene), Indianapolis; Evelyn Spagnuolo (husband Dominick), Wheaton, Ill; Daniel (wife Charlene), Mechanicsburg; Diane Gregor, Plains; five grandchildren, Michele Foster, Wheaton, Ill.; Robert Gregor Jr., Dallas; Christa Renello, Lisle, Ill.; Michael Gregor, Plains; Jacob Wallace, Doylestown; step-grandson, Josh Smith, State College; six great grandchildren; sister, Ann Hrycenko, Plains.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Radzwilka, Dr. Mario Corniccione, the nurses and staff at Riverview Ridge and Riverstreet manor for their excellent care.

Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St Andre Bessette Church, formerly St. Stanislaus Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment with military honors by the Plains American Legion will be in St Mary's G. R. Cemetery, Dallas. Relatives and friends may call today from 2 to 5 p.m.
