WILKES-BARRE — Frank Thaddeus Pienta, 88, of Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday, July 20, 2014.
Frank, who was a son of the late Victoria and Michael Pienta and devoted husband for 62 years of Marcella Kosisher Pienta, passed away peacefully at Celtic Hospice after a gradual decline from congestive heart failure.
Frank was a World War II combat U.S. Marine veteran, having served in the Second Battalion, Sixth Marine Division, at Guadalcanal and Okinawa.
A mail carrier for 30 years, he always enjoyed meeting people along his routes. He also enjoyed driving throughout the United States to explore new places, which he and Marcella did each year.
At home, he loved working in his house and garden, fixing or building anything, even after two debilitating strokes. He was determined to be productive and independent despite his disabilities, and last fall he could still be seen climbing a ladder to prune his apple tree.
The 11th of 12 children, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; and two daughters, Marie, Narberth, Pennsylvania, and Diane, Boston. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Patrick, Katharine and Theresa; and multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, with a viewing from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Celtic Hospice.
Arrangements by Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township.
