Dr. George P. Moses

WILKES-BARRE — Dr. George P. Moses, renowned surgeon and lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018.

Born Jan. 13, 1937, he was the son of the late Peter and Jean (Sessin) Moses and brother of the late Attorney Anthony Moses.

Dr. Moses graduated from St. Nickolas High School, King's College and the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. After graduating from medical school, his education continued as an intern at the Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia. Thereafter, he continued his surgical training at the Lower Bucks County Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Veterans Administration Hospital.

As an active surgeon, Dr. Moses' primary affiliation was with the Mary Hospital of Wilkes-Barre, where he served as chairman of surgery and president of the medical staff.

Dr. Moses truly loved the Wyoming Valley and dedicated himself to many charitable endeavors. Especially close to his heart was the Catherine McCauley Center, a clinic devoted to the care of the less fortunate completely free of charge and the George P. Moses Senior All Star Classics, which raised funds for local charities.

Dr. Moses is survived by brothers, Attorney John P. Moses and wife Joyce, and Peter P. Moses and wife Colleen, both of Wilkes-Barre; nephews Attorney Peter J. Moses, Anthony P. Moses and George P. Moses; and nieces Attorney Alison Moses Pitkanen, Attorney Jean Moses and Marla Moses; and great-niece Cecilia P. Pitkanen.

Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Maronite Church. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Those who desire may give memorial contributions to Wyoming Valley Athletic Association to continue the George P. Moses Senior All Star Classics.
