AVOCA — Grace Lucille (Bianco) Nolan, 82, of Avoca, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA, Scranton.
She was born on March 28, 1931, in Pittston, the daughter of the late August and Lucille (Serignese) Bianco. She graduated from Pittston High School in 1948. Grace was offered an opportunity to model in New York City, but turned it down to instead marry the love of her life, Robert Nolan. She was a longtime member of the Italian American Association of Luzerne County, and served as past president. The association honored her by naming her "Person of the Year" in 1993. She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca, and was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She served as a volunteer for many community organizations and loved politics.
She loved spending time with her family and her many, many friends, and enjoyed going to Atlantic City and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, and playing bingo. She loved to travel, visiting Ireland, the Caribbean and Italy several times. Grace was the biggest fan of the New York Yankees, especially Derek Jeter.
She is survived by her brother Anthony Bianco, Pittston; daughter Roberta (Nolan) Battista and husband Kenneth, Duryea; daughter Geri (Nolan) Piemontese and husband Sam, Duryea; son Robert Nolan and wife Katy, Boyertown; and son-in-law Gary Hines, Exeter; and nine grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Jennifer (Battista) Haggerty and husband John; Brianne (Battista) Nolan and husband Ryan; Maria (Piemontese) Moorman and husband Chad; Jessica (Hines) Regis and husband Paul; Lindsay (Nolan) Wtulich and husband Ed; Hannah (Nolan) Focht and husband Kurt; Joseph Hines; Daniel Piemontese and girlfriend Jamie Morgan; and Bobby Nolan. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Dean and Hudson Moorman, August and Jude Focht, and Mariah Haggerty; as well as her cousins, Missy and Chuck Thomas, and their children, Jason and Gabby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nolan; her brother Philip Bianco; and her daughter Kathleen (Nolan) Hines.
The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Wesley Village, United Methodist Homes, for their compassion, care and concern for our mother and grandmother. The family would also like to thank Dr. Martin Moran and the staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton and Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Queen Of the Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Queen Of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthrone St., Avoca. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.
