Helen C. Stelmack, formerly of Anthracite St., Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Little Flower Manor Nursing Facility, Wilkes-Barre, where she had been a resident.
Born Feb. 17, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Urban. Helen attended GAR High School, Wilkes-Barre, and Wilkes University. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Wilkes-Barre, and the Wyoming Valley Art League. She belonged to the Charles Adams Senior Center and was a former member of the Big Band Society. Helen was a foster grandparent to many children in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for several years, and also taught art and ceramics to students.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1979; daughter, Roseanne Vaskorlis; sisters, Anna Mutter and Victoria Elwood; brothers, Walter, George, Albert and Joseph.
Surviving is her son, Edward Stelmack, and daughter-in-law, Christine Stelmack, of Hanover Township; grandchildren, James Vaskorlis, Judy Vaskorlis, Edward Stelmack, Stephen Stelmack and Marina Stelmack.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Richard Ghezzi will be Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call Tuesday morning 8 a.m. until time of service in the chapel at Little Flower Manor.
