Helen M. Gonsky, 95, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Reston Hospital, Reston, Va., while she had been residing with her daughter.

She was born on Dec. 12, 1917, in Throop, a daughter of the late Konstanty and Rozalia Danielska Oshetski, she graduated at the top of her class from Throop High School and was a state champion tennis player. She completed her business education at the International Correspondence School, Scranton, where she became a math instructor.

She also worked for the Forestry Department in Scranton and held a secretarial position with Elk Lick Coal Co.

Helen and her husband, Edward F. Gonsky, were members of the Wyoming Valley Country Club for more than 60 years, where she was captain of the golf team.

Helen also partnered with her husband as business manager of a successful company known as Edward F. Gonsky Advertising Specialties.

Helen was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre, for more than 55 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Edward, who passed away in 2009; brother, Anthony Oshetski; and sisters, Laura Lyncheski, Lottie Marko and Sandra McCooey.

Surviving are her daughter, Marie Elaine Smith, and her husband, David, Herndon, Va., with whom she resided; sons, Dr. Edward F. Gonsky and his wife, Dr. Libby Gonsky, Delray Beach, Fla.; Robert A. Gonsky, Wilkes-Barre; Dr. Mark A. Gonsky, Glen Summit; Dr. Michael E. Gonsky and his wife, Jolene, Stroudsburg; grandchildren, Jennifer Gonsky, Esq., Allison Gonsky, Esq., Dr. Mark Edward Gonsky, Jonathan Gonsky, Dr. Ashley Gonsky and Michael Tyler Gonsky; great-grandchildren, Talia and Avery Urdan; brother, Edmund Oshetsky, Sunnyvale, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, corner of Division and Barney streets, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no public viewing hours.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the benefit of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, 143 Division St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
