INKERMAN — Irene A. Kosek, 68, of Inkerman, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Adeline Shinski McKitish.
Irene was a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, Laflin and was a graduate of Pittston High School.
She had worked as a receptionist at Wesley Village Nursing Home for 10 years and prior to that had worked at Party Time Mfg. Co., Hughestown.
She was an active participant in making prayer shawls at St. Maria Goretti Church.
Preceding her in death was her brother Eugene McKitish.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Robert Kosek, Inkerman; a son Robert Jr. and his wife Erin, Pittston Township, and a daughter Alina Ortiz, Laflin; grandchildren, Maura and Ryan Kosek, Jana Irene and Rowan Ortiz; brother Gerald and his wife Margaret McKitish, Old Bridge, N.J. and a sister-in-law Marianna McKitish, Pittston; numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin. Msgr. Van Loon, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. The St. Maria Goretti Prayer Group will pray the rosary for Irene a half hour prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Irene's name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
