Jay Vance Fletcher Sr., 72, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26, 2013, with his beloved family at his side. Jay loved his wife of 46 years, his sons and his daughter, and cherished his six beautiful grandchildren.

Jay was born Jan. 3, 1941, in Manchester, Conn., a son of the late John and Bessie Fletcher. He moved to Pennsylvania as a child and lived for many years in Dallas. He graduated from Westmoreland High School in Dallas in 1958 and received a certificate for completing courses to become a machinist II from Wyoming Valley Technical Institute in 1958.

He worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 38 years, spending many years in Ohio before being transferred to East Hartford, Conn., in 1979.

He enjoyed NASCAR, golf and college football, but his family was more important to him than anything.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Donna (Anthony) Fletcher; his three children, Jay and his wife, Alberina, Cromwell, Conn., Jeffrey and his wife, Aimee, Wethersfield, Conn., and Jennifer and her husband, Darren, Stafford Springs, Conn.; his siblings, Alice Lewis, Connecticut, Judy Porco, Enola, and Robert Fletcher, Kingston; and many nieces and nephews. He adored his six grandchildren, Alexander, Gabriel and Marina Fletcher, Zoe and Sierra Jones and Sophia Fletcher. He loved it every time they visited for a sleepover or just to say "hi."

The family expresses its deep appreciation to the staff at VNA Healthcare Hospice Unit, who provided support and care to Jay during his illness. Many thanks and love to Lara, Fred, Mary, Jodi, Katherine, Joyce, Colleen, Linda, Chris and to the rest of the staff who helped and provided support.

A memorial service will be held at noon Sept. 7 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 110 Ellington Road, East Hartford. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Commission on Relief (UMCOR), P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY 10087.
