Joan F. Firestone, 61, of Mountain Top, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1952, in Hazleton. She grew up and went to school in Freeland. She was the daughter of Stephen and Sophie (Blasko) Opert.

Nicknamed "Snow White" by her granddaughter, Jodi, she loved and cared for every wild and domestic animal that found her, especially her two cats, Biddy and Smoke. They were her everything. She lived 10 amazing years with Jodi's kidney and promoted organ transplant every chance she had.

She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a deep love and admiration for all her family. She will be greatly missed.

Her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Paula, thank her sisters, Rosemary and Patricia, for always loving her unconditionally and being there for her with everything that they are. She loved you both more than you know.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert F. Geiser Sr.; and second husband, companion, love of her life and best friend of 32 years, Richard D. Firestone. They hardly ever spent a moment apart up to the time of his death in August 2012.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Paula Geiser, Montain Top; granddaughters, Jodi Lazovich, Slocum Township, and Sophia Geiser, Mountain Top; grandsons, Shane Nowak, Freeland, and Robert S. Geiser, Mountain Top; great-grandsons, Michael and Lucas Lazovich, Slocum Township; sisters, Rosemary Lisnock, Drums; Patricia Weigand and her husband, John, Weatherly; nieces, Lori Hinkle and her husband, Marc; Janette Bontempo and her husband, Joseph, Texas; nephews, Lawrence Lisnock, Drums, and Eric Weigand, Hazleton; great-nephew, Matthew Hinkle, Washington.

A private memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. McCune Funeral Services Inc. is handling the arrangements.
