Joan M. Hovan Fannick

DALLAS — Joan M. Hovan Fannick, 88, passed away peacefully at Mercy Center, Dallas, on May 14, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Anthony Fannick, and brothers John Hovan, Andrew Hovan I, Andrew Hovan II, Joseph Hovan, Michael Hovan, and Robert Hovan; sisters Mary Baiz, Anne Lisnak, Elizabeth Hudock, Helen Jarrett, Agnes Clothier, Josephine Reggie, Irene Gorda, Alberta Wawer, and Margarite Krogulski.

Born April 23, 1930, in Swoyersville, Joan was the daughter of John Hovan and Mary Breka. She graduated from Swoyersville High School, Class of 1948, and Wyoming Valley Hospital in 1951, receiving her RN degree in nursing. She did private duty nursing for 30 years and staff nursing for 17 years at Nesbitt Hospital, Kingston, retiring from General Hospital in 1996. She was an active member of St. Therese's Church in Shavertown.

She is survived by sons Anthony J. Fannick and his wife, Anne, of Milton, and Attorney Demetrius W. Fannick and his wife, Maryann, of Dallas.

She also leaves four grandchildren: Sarah Ireland and husband, Nicholas, of Charleston, S.C., Alyssa Fannick, of New York City, Tony M. Fannick, also of New York City, and Magdalena Fannick, of Dallas; two great-grandchildren Jackson Ireland and Ethan Ireland; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 10 a.m. in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. The Rev. James J. Paisley will officiate. Private interment will be held at the convenience of family.
