John Butry, 82, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., died on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in N.F. Memorial Medical Center.
Born on April 25, 1922, in Wilkes Barre, he was a son of the late Charles and Josephine (Seneta) Butry.
Mr. Butry attended school in Pennsylvania. During World War II, he was a Sergeant with the 1346th Army Air Force Base Unit Air Transportation Corps in the U.S. Army Air Force from January 19, 1943, until his Honorable Discharge April 11, 1946. He served in Luzon and Southern Philippines, and was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. John later re-enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 26, 1947, and served until his honorable discharge on September 23, 1949. During the early 1950s, Mr. Butry moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y., and was employed as a machinist for the former Kimberly Clark Corp., later known as Nitec Corp., in Niagara Falls, N.Y., until his retirement in the mid 1970s.
Mr. Butry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 313 in Youngstown, N.Y.
Mr. Butry is survived by one daughter, Robin (David) Rendina of Lewiston, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Meggan, Sarah and Maria; one brother, Harry (late Ann) Butry of Wilkes-Barre; one sister, Helen (late William) Taylor of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Butry and Rose (late Andrew) Kush; and one brother, Michael (late Mary) Butry.
