John Joseph Zegarski died at his home in The Villages, Florida, on Nov. 12, 2012.
Born May 15, 1938, in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Walter F. Zegarski and Mary (Lafay) Zegarski.
John had a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Army and was a decorated Vietnam veteran. He was also a dedicated anesthetist who was highly regarded and recognized for his commitment and compassionate interaction with patients.
John had a great sense of humor and was a gentle, unassuming man. He had a passion for outdoor adventures, fishing, travel and spending time with friends. Throughout his life, John had a strong interest in health and fitness and remained active in his retirement by biking and playing golf.
John is survived by his longtime companion, Mary Tutterow, The Villages, Florida; two children; John D. Zegarski, Jill Zegarski, Denver, Colo.; one grandson, Dakota Hunter, Golden, Colo.; two siblings, Walter Zegarski, Williamsport; Patricia Blasi, Farmington, Conn.; many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
John lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for more than 20 years.
His heart and soul were in Alaska, and a Celebration of Life event will be held in his memory in Anchorage during the summer of 2013.
