Mary A. Steininger

WILKES-BARRE — Mary A. Steininger, 86, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in the Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Ludwig and Maria Lichtenauer Steininger.

Mary attended GAR Memorial High School.

She was formerly employed in the local silk mills, having worked at Hess & Goldsmith and Rolane's.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church in Wilkes-Barre and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Steininger; and by her brother, Joseph Steininger. She was also preceded in death by her fiance, Frank Harkins; brother-in-law, John Barvitsky; nephews, Jude and Richard Steininger.

Mary is survived by her brother, Ludwig Steininger, and his wife, Irene, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Katherine Ferrance and her husband, Hayden, Binghamton, N.Y.; Theresa Barvitsky, Wilkes-Barre; sister-in-law, Mary Steininger, Wilkes-Barre. Aunt Mamie will be sadly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren, Joseph Steininger Sr., Renee Wood, Kimberly Ferrance, Lee Allen Berzinskas and Robert Eckert.

Mary's family would like to thank the nurses and the entire staff at Little Flower Manor for the compassionate care that they provided.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the Chapel of Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to Little Flower Manor on Saturday. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Little Flower Manor, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre.
