Mary Varchol

Mary Varchol, 92, of the Lower Askam section of Hanover Township, passed away Sunday at Geisenger South Hospice following a recent stroke.

She was the daughter of the late Stanislava and Theophilis Suchowiecki, and was born in Windbur, Pa. She grew up in the Heights Section of Wilkes-Barre and attended GAR High School. Prior to her retirement, Mary was employed by Alta Footwear in Hanover Township. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren in their early years and loved sewing, cooking and all the "simple things in life."

Her many Polish recipes will continue to be enjoyed and passed on through the generations.

Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley and Joseph; and sisters, Bertha Yankowski and Helen Gyurco.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel, with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March; her sister Wanda Marchionni; daughter, Linda Messimer and husband Robert of Mountain Top; son, Brinley Varchol and wife Dorothy of Ohio; grandchildren, Carissa Hyman and husband Jason of Maryland; Kylie Martis and husband Christopher of Dickson City; Kerri Messimer, Mountain Top; Karen Worley and husband Daniel of Ohio; Lisa Perron and husband Taylor of Massachusetts; and her great-grandchildren Brooke and Sarah Worley of Ohio and Mia and Ada Perron of Massachusetts.

Mary's family would like to thank the staff of Home Sweet Home, Wesley Village, and Celtic Hospice of Geisenger South for the care, kindness and compassion provided.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Charles V. Sherbin Funeral Home in Hanover Township. In honoring Mary's wishes, the funeral arrangements will be private and there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the family's convenience.
